Ben Rogers plays guitar. He plays the stuff he cut his teeth on and reinvents tunes from by-gone days that are even cooler now than they were then. Originally from the Sunraysia district (North-West Victoria), Ben is now based in Melbourne after a lengthy sojourn in Perth (Western Australia). He composes and performs instrumental music ranging from Django Reinhardt-inspired gypsy jazz through to 1960s influenced surf-rock. This music is home for Ben and showcases the unique style that led to his invitation to make a guest appearance with guitar legend Jeff Healey on his last Australian tour. And the really good news is that his original compositions are just that – truly original!
His power trio Ben Rogers’ Instrumental Asylum, with Nikki Scarlett on bass guitar and Denis Close on drums, has released three highly acclaimed albums:
– Welcome to the Instrumental Asylum
– Reverb Rehab (listed in the top ten roots releases of 2007 in Rhythms Magazine)
– Instrumentally Disturbed
